Monday Musings - Stay simple, slow and consistent

Lately I’ve been thinking about how easy it is to overcomplicate life when really, it’s the simplest habits that carry us through. Whether it’s trusting the slow start of a new chapter, sticking with small routines that just work, or making little swaps to feel my best as the seasons change — it’s all a reminder that consistency beats perfection every time. So here are a few musings, trends and rituals I’m loving right now, and maybe they’ll remind you to keep it simple too.

The First Pancake

Around this time last year, I’d just quit my job and was finishing my Pilates qualification. I started so humbly, hosting classes in my mum’s beautiful garden (she has an incredible green thumb). Some weeks I had one or two people, but I remember feeling so proud the first time I made £50 in a week. It was slow, but it was right!

Bit by bit, I reached out to studios and gyms, built my confidence, learned how to hold space for a full class rather than just one person. I wanted to grow organically, no forcing it, just showing up and trusting it would build. I always wanted to share my journey online too, to maybe inspire someone else to follow their passion, to remind women to fuel their bodies through movement and wellness.

Comparison could have killed my vibe so easily. It would have been easy to scroll and think, I’m not as good as her, my videos aren’t as polished as theirs, my classes are too small. But I didn’t allow it.

If I caught myself drifting into jealousy, I shut it down quickly and reminded myself: Everyone starts somewhere. Your first class, your first video, your first post — it probably won’t be your best work. And that’s exactly how it’s meant to be. It’s like I say in class now: think of it like the first pancake. It’s always a bit wonky, maybe even a bit rubbish, but you keep going and the next one turns out better. So, if you’re feeling stuck, comparing your chapter one to someone else’s chapter ten, don’t.

Just make the first pancake. Trust me, you’ll get it right.

Recycling trends

We’ve all seen it lately — bandage dresses, ballet flats, big belts and other trends from the 2010s creeping back into our wardrobes. And we love to roll our eyes at it, but maybe it’s not such a bad thing. If you think about it, bringing something back over and over means it works. It does its job, it makes you feel good, it’s familiar and reliable.

Maybe trends aren’t so different from habits and rituals in our everyday lives. We all have our personal ‘recycled trends’ — the little things we stick to because they just work for us. For me, one that never goes out of style is adding chia seeds to my breakfast. Call it boring, but it’s my thing. It helps me feel my best, so why mess with it?

So next time you find yourself rolling your eyes at an old trend making a comeback, ask yourself — what are the things in your own life that you keep bringing back because they make you feel good, or grounded, or a bit more ‘you’?

Some trends deserve a comeback.

Things I’m doing to feel my best this summer

Exfoliating — I recently picked up some traditional black soap from a lovely woman who runs a store in Brixton Market. Think shea butter, cocoa butter and all that good stuff. It has a gentle exfoliating texture and leaves my skin feeling unbelievably soft. I couldn’t recommend it more. It’s even been amazing for my boyfriend’s eczema-prone skin, so it’s a winner in our house.

SPF 50 — every single damn day. No excuses. You won’t catch me with unnecessary wrinkles — I’m not paying for Botox just yet, I’m only 26! Prevention is my best friend: my face stays out of the sun and protected at all costs.

Seasonal eating — my diet always shifts a little with the seasons. I say I eat seasonally, but what I really mean is I eat what’s in season in a way that makes sense for the weather. Tomatoes are starting to peak, but I’m not making a big pot of sauce — I’m tossing them into a fresh tomato, orange zest and balsamic beetroot salad. Light, bright, and not piping hot — exactly how I want to feel in summer.

It’s simple stuff but it makes a difference: soft skin, protected face, fresh food. Summer version of me unlocked.

Final Thoughts

If there’s anything these little reflections have taught me, it’s that nothing good ever needs to be rushed or forced. The first pancake might flop. An old trend might make you cringe until you realise it still works for you. And looking after yourself doesn’t have to be dramatic — sometimes it’s just black soap, SPF and a fresh tomato salad.

Trust the small things, show up for yourself and remember — it’s never about doing it perfectly. It’s about doing it consistently. That’s where the magic happens.

Until next Monday x
