For so long I didn’t see how I would be able to do it, I thought I wasn’t one of those people… turns out most people can’t just do a sub 25 minute 5k, they actually work really, really hard for it

My secret recipe…

Let’s actually talk about this, because I feel like it’s one of those things you only learn the hard way.

For me, 4 classes a day is my absolute max. Anything more and I’m completely drained. Not just physically, mentally too.

I’d find myself using my day off just to rot on the sofa instead of actually feeling recharged or productive.

There are so many factors that feed into your own limits.

I used to avoid doing morning AND evening classes, but now I don’t mind it, as long as I keep it to 1–2 in the morning. One early class sets me up for the day nicely, so I can do other things with my day and then I can take on a double or triple in the evening.

And not all classes feel the same, teaching a block of reformer feels way easier for me than a block of mat.

Mat takes more out of me: I’m more involved, more hands-on, and the class sizes are usually way bigger. I cap mat sessions at two in a row max because it’s just a bigger energy output.

It’s taken a bit of trial and error to figure all this out, but the real challenge is sticking to those boundaries.

Say no to the tempting cover. Take the day off even if you could squeeze something in. You’ll feel better for it.

This job gives a lot, but it also takes a lot. So give yourself the same care you’d give your clients.

Listen to your body.
Let it rest.

As my therapist once asked me, what do you want to be in life?

I did intensive therapy for 6 months circa 2022/23 and I couldn’t recommend therapy to anyone more if I tried.

Julia, said therapist, was working through my personal development of who and what I wanted to be and so she asked me, if you could do anything what would it be?

My reply, a baker in a small village, where there’s barely any people…

The vision is a little skewed from what I do now but the purpose behind my answer was to not be in the traditional role I found myself in, I wanted escapism and to be in-charge of my work.

Julia and I broke up not long after that, our business was complete, chapter closed. She healed me in a way I could never quite put into words. Her intelligence astounded me, she was a godsend.

Just over a year later, when I found the courage to pursue a life outside the crippling (to me) 9-5, I wanted to email her just to say, “I did it!”

So here is your little reminder, it’s never too late to find what it is you want to do in life.

And I just know 10 year old me would think I’m cool as hell right now 🤍

Ladies is that not freedom??

I remember getting told off a handful of times when I was in a corporate job for not dressing appropriately for the office and that would really grind my gears.

I soon learnt it wasn’t me or them it’s was us, we were NOT a good match, not compatible I’m afraid!

So rather than conforming to the norm of a 9-5 and staying somewhere I did not belong, I chose the scarier option, finding myself…

Not in a Bali, retreat with iowaska trip kind of way but really asking myself “what brings you joy in life?”, as I kept hearing that saying “love what you do and you’ll never work a day in your life!”

Movement seemed to be that love for me and so here we are a year later, full time Pilates instructor, affiliate partner and UGC creator, loving what I do and they were right, it barely ever feels like “work”

The only part I don’t like about my job

Don’t get me wrong I love having a “uniform” to go to work in. I remember getting up for my corporate job and just sitting in front of my wardrobe like 🤷🏻‍♀️

But now that I don’t get the option to dress in my “real” clothes, I miss them!

It does make it feel like dress up, maybe it’s healing that inner child? Maybe it even makes me more creative?

You have to love an all pink fit though, this brought me pure joy and I don’t want to hear otherwise.

The only part I don’t like about my job

Don’t get me wrong I love having a “uniform” to go to work in. I remember getting up for my corporate job and just sitting in front of my wardrobe like 🤷🏻‍♀️

But now that I don’t get the option to dress in my “real” clothes, I miss them!

I always make my plans up in the moment depending on the bodies in front of me and I had not pulled this move out in a hot minute!

I love going contemporary in my Pilates style and this mix of strength training using the reformer is just… 🤌🏼

Ed hates running but if I ask him to come with me he’ll be there.

I have the Great North Run coming up in September and the training has only just started and I need all the support I can get.

I find long runs especially very hard to get through! I’ve found that if I have to be alone then a podcast will help me through.

The real struggle for me is to let go of my ego and slow down over the longer distance runs during my training 🙂‍↔️

My biggest supporter 🤍🖤

Ed hates running but if I ask him to come with me he’ll be there.

I have the Great North Run coming up in September and the training has only just started and I need all the support I can get.

I find long runs especially very hard to get through! I’ve found that if I have to be alone then a podcast will help me through.

The real struggle for me is to let go of my ego and slow down over the longer distance runs during my training 🙂‍↔️

I remember getting told off a handful of times when I was in a corporate job for not dressing appropriately for the office and that would really grind my gears.

I soon learnt it wasn’t me or them it’s was us, we were NOT a good match, not compatible I’m afraid!

So rather than conforming to the norm of a 9-5 and staying somewhere I did not belong, I chose the scarier option, finding myself…

Not in a Bali, retreat with iowaska trip kind of way but really asking myself “what brings you joy in life?”, as I kept hearing that saying “love what you do and you’ll never work a day in your life!”

Movement seemed to be that love for me and so here we are a year later, full time Pilates instructor, affiliate partner and UGC creator, loving what I do and they were right, it barely ever feels like “work”

As my therapist once asked me, what do you want to be in life?

I did intensive therapy for 6 months circa 2022/23 and I couldn’t recommend therapy to anyone more if I tried.

Julia, said therapist, was working through my personal development of who and what I wanted to be and so she asked me, if you could do anything what would it be?

My reply, a baker in a small village, where there’s barely any people…

The vision is a little skewed from what I do now but the purpose behind my answer was to not be in the traditional role I found myself in, I wanted escapism and to be in-charge of my work.

Julia and I broke up not long after that, our business was complete, chapter closed. She healed me in a way I could never quite put into words. Her intelligence astounded me, she was a godsend.

Just over a year later, when I found the courage to pursue a life outside the crippling (to me) 9-5, I wanted to email her just to say, “I did it!”

So here is your little reminder, it’s never too late to find what it is you want to do in life.

And I just know 10 year old me would think I’m cool as hell right now 🤍

I had no idea this would lead me here

This was one of those goals I quietly kept on my bucket list not totally sure it was ever going to happen. But here we are.

All those sweaty cycles across South London (which honestly feels like a mountain range) started out as just commuting… and somehow turned into training without me realising.

Cycling is no joke and when I’d say think about having to climb Brixton hill for a 3rd time in a single day, I’d tell myself I couldn’t do it, but, I’m beyond stubborn and don’t like to lose.

It wasn’t easy, but it felt so good to see the payoff. I know to some it might sound small, but for me, this was a big tick.

Grateful for the body, the grind, and the quiet goals that become loud wins 💫

If you’re a new instructor and feel like you’re winging it, this is for you 🙂‍↕️

Confidence while teaching doesn’t just appear overnight, it’s something I’ve had to practice. These 5 things have helped me sound (and feel!) more sure of myself in class:

👩🏻‍🏫 Introducing my teaching style at the start.
When there are new faces, I let them know I teach in a layered way, so they can move with what they’ve got that day, without pressure. Setting expectations helps everyone feel at ease (me included).

⏭️ Cueing the next move before we finish the current one.
This kept the flow seamless and made me feel more in control of the room, no awkward pauses or confusion.

🐢 Slowing down my cues.
Rushing through instructions made me feel (and sound) unsure. Slowing down, especially during spring changes or tricky transitions, made a huge difference — and I’m not afraid to repeat myself if needed.

🤝🏻 Getting hands-on.
This isn’t a job for an introvert. Pilates requires a lot of correction, and I’ve learned to own that. I use my hands to gently assist and guide people into the right position, always supportively and respectfully.

💬 Asking for feedback, directly.
Instead of guessing what landed and what didn’t, I just ask. “Did we love that?” “Would we do it again or never ever?” The more open the chat, the better the class gets.

+ a bonus one:
Going to other instructors’ classes and learning from them. Picking up cues, transitions, or even just how they hold the room. Borrowing and adapting is part of growing. Share the good stuff!

My secret recipe…

Let’s actually talk about this, because I feel like it’s one of those things you only learn the hard way.

For me, 4 classes a day is my absolute max. Anything more and I’m completely drained. Not just physically, mentally too.

I’d find myself using my day off just to rot on the sofa instead of actually feeling recharged or productive.

There are so many factors that feed into your own limits.

I used to avoid doing morning AND evening classes, but now I don’t mind it, as long as I keep it to 1–2 in the morning. One early class sets me up for the day nicely, so I can do other things with my day and then I can take on a double or triple in the evening.

And not all classes feel the same, teaching a block of reformer feels way easier for me than a block of mat.

Mat takes more out of me: I’m more involved, more hands-on, and the class sizes are usually way bigger. I cap mat sessions at two in a row max because it’s just a bigger energy output.

It’s taken a bit of trial and error to figure all this out, but the real challenge is sticking to those boundaries.

Say no to the tempting cover. Take the day off even if you could squeeze something in. You’ll feel better for it.

This job gives a lot, but it also takes a lot. So give yourself the same care you’d give your clients.

Listen to your body.
Let it rest.
